Valentine's Date Night Dinner

One again the V-Day date night was a great success! I hope I speak for everyone there when I say it was a total blast! Thanks to Jennifer Walther for offering her home, Bro. Cook & Bro. Breshears for Barbecuing our meats & Rossie Torres for the             H-alarious newlyweds game! I'm so glad we had a good turn out & people took the time to come & socialize as a Ward Family. Sorry we missed those who were unable to come!

Christmas On A Budget Activity

CAKE BITES!

Once the cake is baked & cooled, crumble into a bowl & fold in 1 8oz. pkg. of whipped, room temp cream cheese & form into balls.

Lemonade Cake bites                    Pumpkin Spice Cake bites

White cake mix                                                  Spice cake mix

1 can lemonade concentrate                       1 can pure pumpkin

3 eggs

1/3 C. oil

zest from a lemon if you have one.

Chocolate Mint Cake bites              Lime Coconut Cake bites

1 box devils food cake mix                             White cake mix

3 eggs                                                                      1 can limeade concentrate

General Conference Afterthought

1. Favorite quote: My son, Ryan, told me that he really likes President Dieter F. Uchtdorf's definition on humility-"humility is not thinking less of yourslef but thinking less about yourself."

2. It's a good idea to make resolutions right after every general conference because you just heard the Lord's counsels from His servants, and you know you need to work on one or two things.

3. It pays to have righteous desires. President Henry B. Eyring related his experience. Years ago President Ezra Taff Benson counseled members to pay off their mortgages during one general conference session. Hearing that counsel, President Eyring whispered to his wife and asked if it's possible for them to pay off their mortgage, and the following Monday their real esate agent called and said someone had inquired about their out of state property that was sitting on the market for quite some time. The sale amount was a few dollars over their mortgage amount and with the money they were able to pay off their mortgage. We may not have same result like President Eyring, but we know God will bless us when we have righteous desires and want to follow the prophet.

We are planning to publish a booklet called "Settler's Bay Sisters 2010" This will give us a chance to vioce our testimonies and share our spiritual experiences with each other. If you are interested, please summit an article. Please include the title and your name, use 12 font New Roman Style, and make the articles about page long. Hope you are as excited as I am and I gurantee that you will be glad you did this.

About Visiting Teaching

Sister Jennifer Walther, our beloved RS president, said that we need to step up a little bit on visiting teaching. Instead of being satisfied with monthly contact via phone, email, or mail, we should try to go over our assigned sisters' houses and visit teach them once a month. Amen for that. To me there is nothing better than having my visting teachers in my house conversing with me. I totally enjoyed the chatting and the heartfelt conversations with my visiting teachers. I understand there may be some difficulties you are dealing with (difficulty to schedule appointments or counldn't get hold of your companion...) As long as you try your hardest, I know God will bless your efforts. He knows the sacrifices you make. I have a tesimony of that. Another suggestion I have is to do visiting teaching early each month, so you have more chances to succeed.

Reaching New Height in Providence Living

On Thursday, I went to Rita Nugent's house to watch her do cannery. I finally learned how to do it (I think.) I also got to see her garage where she stores her food. It's basically an extended pantry with massive quantities. I jokingly said to Rita that she is an ideal LDS pioneer woman: she cans her own food, bakes her own bread, catches her own fish, and grows her own garden. I still need to overcome my laziness and excuses. Hopefully, I can be more self-reliant like Rita and many others in our ward.

Women's Conference Recap

For those who didn't make it to the women's conference, I highly recommend you to attend next year even if it's just a part of it. The scale of women's conference totally blew me away. I enjoyed every aspect of the meeting.

Fun run: I didn't go, but I am sure it's good to do some running with sisters.

Service Project: Original project to donate 10 quilts. It turned out to be 60 quilts. Sisters also donated an abundance of school supplies.

Food: Excellent food that kept coming. They provided dinner, breakfast and brunch. Yum.

Entertainment: the variety show was funny. There were singing, dancing, piano playing. the funiest of all prabably was the facial exercise and the single's ward (I Need A Man). Of course, the Polynesian sisters shined with dancing.

Devotionals: Brother Christian talked about how big is the universe and why God who is the creator can perform miracles. Sister Dance talked about her family and how she benefits from a loving family.

Classes: this is probably the best part of the conference besides the dinner and the show. I went to Brother Huntington's class. He talked about why we should face our fears as a new challenge and live up to our dreams.

Then I stayed for a budgeting class. The teacher, Brother Ellsworth talked about how all the millionaries have somethings in common: budgeting, saving, and living modestly. Then I went to a class on how to feed a family on a budget. I learned to use a shopping list when shopping, to shop less often, and to use canning and buying in bulk.

The next day, I went to a modesty class. Sister Breshears (the other Breshears)shared her strategies on how to make the clothing modest by doing a little bit of editing. She also said we need not to be fashionable. Shopping should not be our main passion.

The last class I went was about depression. Brother Grasser pointed out the causes of the depression (generic, drugs, alcohol, abuse) and the main symptoms (sleep disorder, isolation, mood swing). As I talked this subject with my son, he said it has a lot to do with personal choice. I think he's right.

The last class I went to was about organization and cleaning. After the class, I was determined to get rid my clutter, and have my kids clean up the house on Saturdays and clean up right away. There are tons of classes I wanted to attend but I couldn't.
