Aiming for the Celestial Kingdom

After listening to the stake conference talks, I have concluded that we all need to be more like children to avoid uncessary drama in life. Children are happy, loving, forgiving, and submissive. Therefore, Jesus recommends those qualities to us so we may enter the kingdom of God. I wonder how many times we make mistakes because our pride gets involved. I hope we can all see that and try to get rid of it, so it won't be a stumbling block for us. I think pride is a sign of a lack of understanding of selfworth. If a person knows who he/she is, the outward appearance: look, money, position, and social status become irrelevant. We don't need reginition to prove our worth. We are all children of God and we all have potential become like God. What else can top that? Like Nephi, I feel like shouting to my soul "Wake up, Jessica!!!" or breaking my chains caused by my sins and weaknesses. -Jessica Wright

New Year Resolutions and Goal Setting

First of all, let me share a few pages from "Diary of a Wimpy Kid-The Last Straw." It's so funny.

New Year Day

You know how you're supposed to come up with a list of "resolutions" at the beginning of the year to try to make yourself a better person?

Well, the problem is, it's not easy for me to think of ways to improve myself, because I'm already pretty much one of the best people I know.

So this year my resolution is to try and help other people improve. But the thing I'm finding out is that some people don't really appreciate it when you're trying to be helpful.

One thing I noticed right off the bat is that the people in my family are doing a lousy job sticking to their New Year's resolutions.

Mom said she was gonna start going to the gym today, but she spent the whole afternoon watching TV.

And Dad said he was gonna go on a strict diet, but after dinner I caught him out in the garage, stuffing his face with brownies.

Even my little brother, Manny, could not stick to his resolution. This morning he told everyone that he's a "big boy' and he 's giving up his pacifier for good. Then he threw his favorite binkie in the trash. Well, that New Year's resolution didn't even last a full minute.

The only person in my family who didn't come up with a resolution is my older brother, Rodrick, and that's a pity because his list should be about a mile and a half long.

I was laughing so hard about this. Anyway, how's everyone doing? I am glad that Rachel Lund gave a lesson in February about goal setting. She said that the first step is to evaluate your life and set resonable goals. Goal setting should be a constant effort. "What do I want to accomplish today (this week)? " I really like that idea. -Jessica Wright
