A Visiting Teacher's Confession

Whenever I heard people say that they are grateful for their callings, I always thought that was weird. However, tonight I felt tremedously blessed because of my calling as a visiting teacher.

As you all know my husband is back for two weeks. I have been busy accompanying him, but I suddenly realized it's the last week that I can do my visiting teaching for this month. (yea, a deadline is the best motivation) I came up a plan. I could bake a cake and bring it to the people I visit. I proceeded with my plan. At the first stop, the sister invited me in (something which I didn't expect). We (her family and mine) had a good chat for around 15 mins. Then we went to our second stop, I felt like a Santa Clause because her kids liked my treat.( Their dog wanted a piece of cake too) The sister and I chatted a little. I had compassion toward her knowing how hard it is to be a young mother for so many young children. Then I went to the last stop. Both the mother and her daughters opened the door. The daughters were excited to show me their tricks and show me the flowers, plants, and toys in the yards. I stayed there for 15 mins and listened to them, enjoying their enthusiasm. That night, I found myself praying for the sisters and their families. My heart is full right now. I feel like a miracle worker because of my simple chance to serve. I love how serving others, benefits both them and me.

Prepare for the Golden Age

I just read the article from the Ensign (July 2010) called "Investing in the golden Years," I found the article is extremely helpful for all of us. Personally I have read many similar articles but only this article covers just about every aspect. Here is the break down:

1 Financial preparation: avoid debt and save money. (pg. 63)

2. Temporal preparation : prepare legal document such as will or trust. (pg. 63)

3. Physical preparation: exercise, healthy diet. (pg. 64)

4. Mental preparation: use your brain by continuing to learn. (pg. 64-65)

5. Emotional preparation: being positive. (pg.65)

6. Spiritual preparation: being more Christlike. (pg. 65)

I really like this article because it's not about numbers (calculating how much we need for retirement) and it not about retirement. Anyway, I recommend this article with everyone and start to make a plan. Yea, go do some exercise.
